I don’t differentiate between theatrical and OTT: Randeep Hooda

Actor Randeep Hooda may have mastered the negative role when it comes to his films, but in real life, he is trying to spread positivity by getting medical aid to those who now need it most

Q. Radhe is your third film with Salman Khan. With each project, it seems your screen time has increased. What is he like to work with?

You have got to sing his tune, for sure. We have been friends off-screen for over a decade now. He is always [someone who works] in the spur of the moment. Radhe is not the kind of film you get a script and prepare for. You just turn up on the set in a good mood and do the best you can on that day.

Q. Extraction was one of the most watched films of 2020. Is Hollywood on your mind?

I was pleasantly surprised and grateful. It was uncharacteristic for an Indian in a Hollywood film to drive the screenplay and do action. There is a lot of interest from the West and I’m in talks for a few projects. The pandemic has slowed those plans a little. I hope to pursue them once travel to the US resumes.

Q. You have waited to jump on the OTT bandwagon. You shot for your first web series, Inspector Avinash, only early this year.

I don’t differentiate between theatrical and OTT. What matters to me is a good story and script. I have been offered a lot of remakes of international series, but audiences the world over have already seen them. I would rather do something that is rooted here and says something original.

Q. You have been proactive in amplifying calls for medical aid during the second wave. Does being socially conscious come naturally to you?

As a human being and citizen, one feels like doing these things. Instead of feeling depressed about the misery, helping someone helps you boost your own sense of well-being.
